The A-Z of Cambridge United: P-T

P: Play-Offs

We’ve got a long and varied history with the play-offs, having won the first Wembley final in 1990 against Chesterfield, we suffered the agony of a hiding against Leicester in the semi’s for a place in the Premier League two years later. Two futile attempts at getting out of the Conference in 2008 & 2009 followed before one of the greatest days in the clubs history on May 18 2014 when Ryan Donaldson & Liam Hughes scored to get the U’s back into the League.

Q: Darren Quinton

You try and find a better one…

R: Robbie Simpson

Scored the goal that kept us from falling into regional football against Aldershot in 2007. We wouldn’t be here without him.

S: Shaggy is God

Much missed graffiti on the wall of Corals opposite the entrance to the ground on Newmarket Road. Honours the great John Taylor, the clubs record goalscorer and all round nice guy.

T: Tudor, Shane

Semi-decent little winger during the Beck II/Shaggy era who thought it would be clever to moan about how rude people in Cambridge are during an interview with FourFourTwo magazine. Didn’t last long after that.
