Always one of the most anticipated dates of pre-season, yesterdays fixture release day saw U’s fans up and down the country clearing their diaries ahead of some tasty games next year.

We kick off at home to Oxford in a game that will no doubt be billed as some kind of University Derby despite no-one outside the media thinking of it as such. We then travel to Accrington and Plymouth before finishing the month with two games at the Abbey.
The first ‘big’ away game of the season comes in September with a trip to Portsmouth, but it’s October that U’s fans will be looking forward to the most as we host Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday in back-to-back home fixtures, the match against the Owls taking place on a Tuesday night, which is a nice reminder of our Worthington Cup game with them back in 1998.
November sees a short-ish trip to MK Dons and the visits of Wigan and Sunderland to the Abbey – let’s hope the Sunderland game doesn’t see a repeat of their last game here when they ran out 7-0 winners in the League Cup.
Decembers highlights include a trip to Charlton as well as a Boxing Day visit to Wycombe – although they could be replaced by Derby if the EFL get their act together and punish the Rams for financial misdeeds.
The new year kicks off at the Abbey with Portsmouth coming to town before a busy February sees us play six matches. March will include a trip to Hillsborough as well as AFC Wimbledon’s new ground at Plough Lane.
The season is due to end on the 30th April at home to Cheltenham, but before that we’ll be visiting Wigan, Ipswich and Sunderland, the latter two of those three games being some of the most eagerly anticipated away games of the season, saved right until the end.
