We’re back at the Abbey on Saturday as everyone’s favourite second team – MK Dons – comes to town. It was a game to forget for the U’s when we visited Stadium MK back in November, especially for loanee Conor Masterson, hooked at half time never to be seen again after a horrorshow 45 minutes. Will things be any different this time, as the U’s look to put another heavy defeat behind them? Let’s find out.
Takeaways from Bonner’s Presser:
- Saturday wasn’t an enjoyable day but we hope to put that right against MK
- We’re in a brilliant position all things considered
- MK Dons are one of the best teams in the division
- Tracey & Tolaj doubs
- MK Dons do a great carvery dinner
Expected U’s Line Up
It’s hard to call as we’re almost at full fitness. Lloyd Jones had a nightmare of a game on Saturday so it’s possible Sherring returns to the XI, but Bonner isn’t really known for dropping players after a poor performance so he may well stick with him for consistency. Other than that it’s as you were.
Mitov, Williams, Jones, Okedina, Dunk, Digby, O’Neil, Brophy, Smith, Wes, Ironside
Who’s Their Player To Watch?
Where’d you start? MK Dons have quality in droves, with Harry Darling, Scott Twine, Mo Eisa, Josh McEacharan, Hiram Boateng and Troy Parrott all capable of creating danger.
Who’s In The Dugout?
Similar to our own Mark Bonner Liam Manning never played a game professionally (although he had a spell on the books at Ipswich before playing semi-pro around the region) and comes to management via coaching. Highly rated, Bonner knows him well and it should be an interesting match-up.
What’s Their Recent Form Like?
Close your eyes now. Four wins and a draw in the last five. Unbeaten in 10, and they’ve only conceded six goals in that time, scoring seventeen.
Any Ex-United Players?
A couple of ‘lockdown legends’ in Harry Darling and Hiram Boateng. Darling made 16 appearances as we gained promotion last year, and played over 70 times for the U’s in total, scoring three goals for his boyhood club. Boateng joined on loan partway through the campaign, playing 25 times. Both should be warmly welcomed back.
Last Time Out
A pretty dreadful 4-1 defeat in Novemeber. Save yourself the bother of watching it again.
A Matchday Album to Listen To
Nothing ever good has come out of Milton Keynes, either music wise, or football wise, so we’re at slim pickings to come up with something with even the most tenuous connection to the place. So we’ve gone for something that’s polar opposite to the concrete ugliness of MK, and that’s the beautiful vocals of Broadcast’s Trish Keenan, featuring front and centre on this LP of their Peel Sessions from 1996, finally released eleven years after her untimely death.

We never seem to beat these lot do we? Do you want to watch again a 1-0 defeat at the Abbey or a 6-0 loss at their place under Derry? Nah we thought not. Here’s Harry Darling in happier times, scoring a last minute winner against Colchester back in 2019
