Cheltenham (A) Match Preview

Here we go, football is back! After the cancellation of last weekends round of fixtures United travel to Cheltenham, scene of a somewhat unexpected 5-0 win last season.

Bonner’s got more or less a full squad to choose from, although youngster Kai Yearn won’t feature after being loaned out to Chelmsford City for the remainder of the season. We don’t think he’ll change much from the side that beat Lincoln two weeks ago.

Expected U’s Line-Up: Mitov, Williams, Jones, Okedina, Dunk, May, Digby, Smith, Knibbs, Tracey, Ironside

Who’s In The Dugout? After Michael Duff joined Barnsley in the summer Cheltenham promoted from within, coach Wade Elliott moving into the hot seat after being part of Duff’s coaching staff. Elliott made over 500 appearances for Bournemouth, Burnley and Birmingham in the Championship and Premier League.

Who’s Their Player To Watch? Striker Alfie May scored over 20 goals last season but has only found the net once this year.

What’s Their Recent Form Like? Played 7, won once, drawn twice, lost the rest.

Any Ex-United Players? Defender Sean Long, played seven times whilst on loan from Reading back in 2016-17

Last Time Out: U’s 2-2 Cheltenham, 30 April 2022.

We finished last season with a draw at the Abbey to the 10-man Robins.

A Matchday Album To Listen To: Oliver Sim – Hideous Bastard

This new one from The XX’s Oliver Sim is equal parts tender and ecstatic as he explores his identity with help from Bronski Beat’s Jimmy Somerville and his bandmate Jamie XX.

From The Archive: Cheltenham 0-5 U’s, 7 December 2021

Joey Ironside hit a hat-trick in this demolition of the Robins from last season.
