Ipswich (H) Match Preview

United are back in action at the Abbey on Saturday as our humourless Suffolk neighbours Ipswich Town come to visit. The Abbey will be sold out for the occasion, with 5000 more Town fans watching the Cup Final on a big screen beamed back to Portman Road.

Bonner’s new, improved Cambridge side saw some green shoots during the game against Lincoln, and he’ll be looking to build upon that performance with a result against a high-flying Ipswich side tomorrow. With five new signings in the ranks and no significant departures Bonner has options to try and turn our season around.

We expect that the back three of Morro, R Bennett and Jones will continue, with McGrandles in midfield – new signing George Thomas appears to be carrying an injury that will keep him out a little longer. Dimi Mitov was a surprise return to the squad on Saturday at Lincoln and will keep his place, the only question is which attacker will drop to the bench out of Smith, Knibbs and Ironside, and will we get to see Fejiri Okenabirhie make an appearance?

Expected U’s Line-Up: Mitov, Williams, Morrison, R Bennett, Jones, L Bennett, McGrandles, Digby, Brophy, Knibbs, Smith

Who’s In The Dugout: Young former Spurs & Man Utd youth coach Kieran McKenna is enjoying his first managerial job at Portman Road, hoping to get Ipswich promoted at the second time of asking.

Who’s Their Player To Watch? Where to start? Probably the strongest squad in the Division, they’ve a number of players who can cause us trouble including Luke Woolfenden, Marcus Harness, Tyreece John-Jules, Sone Aluko and Freddie Ladapo. Captain Sam Morsy will have the most influence from the middle of the park.

What’s Their Recent Form Like? Won one, Lost one, drawn three of the last five. Third in the table

Any Ex-United Players? Just Dominic Ball, who made 11 appearances from us on loan from Tottenham back in 2015.

Last Time Out: Ipswich 3-0 U’s, 4 October 2022

One to forget for United as we lost convincingly to Ipswich back in October
