Ranking United’s Hummel Shirts

With the news that we’re changing away from Hummel shirts next season we decided to look back at some of the best (and worst) the Danish brand has given us. @vinylperez takes up the challenge.

#1 2019-20 Away

We didn’t win very much in it, and by God some terrible players wore it, but Hummel’s first away shirt for us set the trend for retro-inspired kits that continued through their tenure. Worn most memorably during the Carabao Cup Win at Brentford.

#2 2020-21 50th Anniversary Shirt

A special shirt from a special season, United made a handful of these stunning shirts available for fans to purchase. Worn during a rain-soaked win over Newport it harked back to our first ever League shirt, plain white, amber and black trim. Sponsor Mick George kindly agreed to be left off so not to spoil the clean design of the shirt, and they were presented to fans in a special presentation box.

#3 2020-21 Home

A shirt that will be forever associated with the lockdown legends, fans only got to see us wear this kit twice before COVID restrictions were forced upon Football. A nice striped design, chevrons on the sleeve, Paul Mullin banging in the goals. What’s not to love?

#4 2020-21 Away

Pretty much every shirt during the promotion season was incredible, and this could have finished much higher if it wasn’t for the quality of the shirts above it. A throwback to our 1998/99 Away shirt, the half-and-half design remains a fans favourite to this day.

#5 2021-22 Away

We had a couple of black away kits under Puma, but neither of them were really perfect. This one however, with it’s proper collar and light diagonal striping was a proper hit, and memorably featured in the win at Ipswich.

#6 2021-22 Home

A marmite kit when it was launched, it’s design was influenced by the 1993-95 Home shirt. After that famous result up at Newcastle everyone seemed to forgive the madness of the pattern on the front and it’s already become a cult classic.

#7 2022-23 Home

A classic round neck and a shadow pattern reminiscent of the Influence Fujitsu shirt from the early 90’s glory days. Wasn’t the most successful on the pitch, but a nice shirt nonetheless.

#8 2019-20 Home

Another one that won’t be associated with much success on the pitch, the simple amber shirt and black sleeves kicked off Hummel’s reign in style.

#9 2021-22 Third

Not a million miles away from our 50th Anniversary shirt, this one didn’t see too much action, but the gradient Amber & Black stripes going down the chest kept things interesting. Maybe deserves to be higher, but that just goes to show how good our other shirts have been.

#10 2022-23 Away

Doesn’t deserve to be bottom, but something has to be. Basically the home shirt but in pale blue, a throwback to the Fujitsu Away shirt from 1991-93.
